The Sympathy Pin

Celebrating 20 years of the Sympathy Pin

The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement is delighted to announce the re-launch of the Sympathy Pin. The Sympathy Pin was originally created by Karen Taylor in 1996, making 2016 it's 20th anniversary. The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement is proud to have been involved with Karen and the pin since its inception.

Grief is a very personal journey, which tends to be neither well understood nor supported beyond the occasion of the funeral in our Western culture.

The Sympathy Pin was created as something to support anyone who is experiencing a journey through grief and loss and provide a symbol that would enable community support and empathy.

The simple act of putting the Sympathy Pin on at the start of the day, or whenever the grieving person feels the need, serves as a personal reminder that grieving and giving oneself time to grieve is both normal and
reasonable
